In 2024, the Global EverGreening Alliance has continued to make extraordinary strides in restoring degraded landscapes and improving livelihoods. Through flagship programmes like Restore Africa, we scaled up efforts to directly impact over 1.5 million farming families across East and Southern Africa. This year alone, our impact has been remarkable, with 150,000 farmers trained, over 200,000 communities engaged and a mind-boggling 6 million trees planted! A significant highlight of 2024 was our Restore Africa film, which garnered international recognition by winning its category at the world’s largest sustainability film festival, taking the powerful stories of on-the-ground transformation to global audiences.

Across Asia, our work with the Restore Southeast Asia Programme and Landscape Partnership Asia has been pivotal. These initiatives laid the groundwork for large-scale restoration efforts across the region, with exciting new projects set to launch in 2025. This year demonstrated our relentless commitment to driving action where it matters most. Our project in Laos made incredible strides! The Enhancing Forest Ecosystems Integrity Project in Xesap and Xe Pian National Protected Areas project in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation (ADF) and WWF came to an end this year. The project saw over 200 farmers engaged and 58,900 seedlings planted (surpassing our initial goal of 30,000!)

Notably this year we held the Accelerating Nature-based Solutions Conference, where we convened over 500 change-makers and action-takers from diverse sectors, including institutions, NGOs, governments, and the private sector. While we saw an enormous amount of outcomes from this collaborative week, it also delivered our biggest game changer (the thing we’ve all been looking for) the Harmonisation Initiative, that we launched at the UNCCD COP16. This initiative is now a significant part of the UNCCD COP16 Riyadh Action Agenda.

Through it all, one thing remains clear: our unwavering commitment to the shared vision of Greening Up to Cool Down the Planet. None of this would be possible without our ever-growing community; our partners, friends, investors, donors and members. This year, we proudly welcomed 7 new members. Together we are mobilising resources, creating impact, and driving the transformative change our planet and people urgently need, something we will continue to thrive for in 2025.
